Homi M. Byramji received a bachelor’s in engineering from IIT Bombay in 1974 and then a Masters in Business Administration from Rutgers University. He began his career as a Software Developer at Rapidata, Inc., a time sharing company, where he developed the world’s first commercial synthesized voice response, touch-tone entry application. It was an extremely successful Cash Management system that was private labeled by the Bank of America and the Irving Trust Company. Homi then went on to develop stock and option pricing databases, an economic database and a Federal Reserve Bank Board Statistics database; became a Database Administrator and then the Marketing Manager for database products.
In 1980, intrigued by the promise of personal computers, Homi joined Monroe Systems for Business, a division of Litton Industries, to help transform this calculator company into a computer company. In 18 months Monroe designed and developed a state of the art personal computer, and Homi transitioned to be their Marketing manager for database and graphics applications.
Three years later, intent on being an entrepreneur, Homi struck out on his own. After two failed companies Homi became a successful consultant developing proprietary investment analysis and stock selection applications.
In 1989, Homi took over a publicly traded financial database company called Market Guide that had fallen upon hard times. Homi turned it around and made it into the most innovative and respected financial database company in the country. Under Homi’s leadership, Market Guide consistently grew its revenue and earnings at about 30 percent per year.
In 1999, Homi sold Market Guide to Multex.com who he joined it as a senior member of management and a member of the board of directors. Less than four years later, Reuters acquired Multex.com.
Today, Homi is a SVP in the Content department of Reuters, a five billion dollar global information company with operations in 92 countries.
